Cutaneous nerve blocks of the lower extremity☆☆

Department of Anesthesiology, St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center, New York, NY

Abstract

Cutaneous nerve blocks of the lower extremity are useful anesthetic techniques that can be used as a sole anesthetic technique for minor surgical procedures. More commonly, these blocks are used as an adjunct to the major conduction blocks of the lower extremity. These blocks are superficial, require minimal equipment, are relatively simple to accomplish and learn, and should be in the armamentarium of every practitioner.
